All comments should be attributed to Juan Ponce De Leon, European Sales Representative for Permaban Ltd.

Permaban have been at the forefront of floor design, installation, product manufacture, floor repair, maintenance and aftercare for over 25 years.  Since being founded in 1983, Permaban have become a leading supplier in the UK, Europe and Middle East along with new presence in Asia.  The product range offers quality solutions for ‘leave-in-place' formwork, dry-shake floor toppings and concrete curing.

Permaban's European Sales Representative for Spain and Italy, Juan Ponce de Leon, explains the installation process of Permaban's AlphaJoint system at a site in Toledo, Madrid.

The site is a Gazeley warehouse located in Madrid, Spain (Image 1: GSE, Gazeley Warehouse- Parque Logistice Ontigola, Toledo, Madrid, Spain).  Gazeley are a global provider of sustainable logistics space and their warehouses are expertly designed and strategically located to meet the specific requirements of customers ever changing business needs and time scales.

At the end of July 2009, Permaban were commissioned to supply their AlphaJoint GD8 160mm including stud strip for a floor area of 24,000m² (Image 2: Permaban's AlphaJoint GD8 160mm including stud strip). Constructed by GSE for Gazeley, the brief was to supply the Flooring Contractor (Hormipul SA) with a finished floor which would be of high durability, require minimum maintenance and to include a low cost formwork system for a slab depth of 18cm.

The solution adopted by GSE is summarised below:

Flatness requirements: FM2 as per TR34 3rd Edition
Slab Depth: 18cm
Reinforcement:  25 kg/m³ steel fibres
Production: 2000m² per day.
Saw cut at 6m centres

"Concrete Floor slabs in heavy duty internal situations, like the Gazeley warehouse in Madrid require joints that provide both protection of arris edges of free contraction joints and the accommodation of lateral movement in two planes between bays.  To achieve an excellent finished slab, this requires attention to detail in the planning of the sub-base tolerances, good consistent concrete supply rates and precision leave-in-place formwork, such as AlphaJoint, which is properly supported" explains Juan.

The internal floor at the Gazeley warehouse is well underway and Permaban are onsite giving the Flooring Contractor advice and technical support on the installation of the AlphaJoint GD8.  The project is expected to be completed on the 24th September 2009.
